Some think the fat, humanoid-looking creature is the product of interspecies breeding between man and beast, while others believe the mother may have been accidentally inseminated with human sperm.
Some say they will not be happy until the carcass is ceremonially burned.
But agricultural chiefs have called for calm, and confirmed the deformed lamb is simply the result of an infection contracted in the womb.
Dr Lubabalo Mrwebi, chief director of veterinary services said: “While at a glance it resembles a human form, it is not human but a deformed stillborn lamb sired by a sheep and subsequently infected by a Rift Valley Fever at an early stage of its pregnancy.
“It is not unusual for animals to be infected in the early stages of a pregnancy, and the lamb had become pregnant during a time of heavy rainfall. This is when mosquitos, known to be vectors of Rift Valley Fever, are rife.
“The infection affected the lamb in the womb, which made it develop deformities, including a misshapen head, the result of excessive fluid in the brain, a small brain, and an underdeveloped jaw.
“We call on the local community not to panic over this deformed lamb.
“We can confirm that this deformed lamb is not a progeny of sheep ovum and a human sperm.”
Earlier this month a baby cow born with human-like facial features was hailed as a god in India, with thousands of worshippers flocking to see the animal and talk of building a temple in its honour.
Many belived the calf, which died within an hour of being born, was an avatar of Lord Vishnu, a Hindu God.
